ESC Task Force Ensures that the Policy Recommendations Formulation will be Taken as Actions in G20
JAKARTA - Energy, Sustainability, and Climate (ESC) Task Force B20 continues to ensure relevant and actionable policy recommendations for the G20 presidency. The Task Force, led by the President Director of Pertamina, held a Second Task Force Call Meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday (22/3/2022).
According to Nicke Widyawati, the virtual event was intended to ensure an inclusive process in formulating policy recommendations and actions by allowing the task force members to convey their views.
Nicke also said that the task force she leads coordinates with other task forces. “We have also held meetings with other task forces to coordinate in areas of common interest,” said Nicke.
She hopes to ensure the formulation of policy recommendations that promote inclusiveness, resilience, and innovation through this meeting.
“Thanks to the Co-Chair for providing input, both before and during this call. Your insight and experience in this industry are invaluable to our task force,” said Nicke.
As is known, more than 100 inputs were given to the policy paper draft. This meeting discussed the restructuring of the policy paper draft resulting from 100 inputs on the three main policy recommendations of the Task Force and eleven policy actions.
In addition, the ESC Task Force sought additional input from members on various topics related to the energy transition, including other perspectives on available technologies and proven approaches from TF members.
On the same occasion, ESC Task Force Policy Manager, Oki Muraza, conveyed coordination results with other task forces, such as discussions with the Trade & Investment Task Force.
In addition, together with the Future Work & Education Task Force, it was agreed that the ESC Task Force would assess; (a) The impact of the energy transition on employment in the fossil fuel sector, (b) Job creation in the green economy, and (c) Skills, training, and requirements gaps.
Finally, together with the Integrity & Compliance Task Force, it was agreed that they would cover a broader range of Environment, Social, and Government reporting. “At the same time, we focus on how sustainability reporting can be improved to support investment in energy transition projects,” said Oki.
From this activity, inputs obtained will become essential points in ensuring a sustainable energy transition for business actors, including the readiness of infrastructure and human resources, funding support, and the consistency of policies and regulations needed to provide energy that is widely accessible with competitive price.•HM
