Task Force Energy, Sustainable & Climate B20 Invites Global Companies to Create Recommendation for G20
JAKARTA - Energy, Sustainable, and Climate Task Force Business 20 (B20) continues to encourage the creation of policies to address climate change, clean energy usage, and carbon emissions reduction. For this reason, through the 2nd Call Meeting on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the Energy, Sustainable, and Climate (ESC) Task Force B20 invited global companies to participate in creating policies that will be followed up on the G20 presidency.
In the meeting, three policy recommendations and 14 recommendations for further action were discussed and followed by a discussion from all co-chairs present.
The three policy recommendations are: First, enhancing global cooperation on accelerating the transition to sustainable energy use by reducing the carbon emission of energy use through multiple pathways. Second, enhancing global cooperation on ensuring a just, orderly, and affordable transition to sustainable energy use across developed and developing countries. Third, enhancing global cooperation on enhancing consumer-level energy security by enhancing access to and ability to consume clean and modern energy.
“This is a developed policy. We determined a series of actions needed to enable the B20 and G20 countries to implement our policy recommendations," said Oki Muraza, Manager of Policy Taskforce ESC B20.
In addition, he said that the recommendations can be used as inputs for policy actions that are in line with one another.
"We believe that the current recommendations can represent our intention to recommend relevant policies in other fields that use the issue of energy sustainability and climate change," said Oki.
Deputy Chair of the ESC Taskforce B20, Agung Wicaksono said that all the recommendations could still be adjusted and could continue to be developed following the needs with the ongoing process of the ESC Taskforce B20.
"This is our hope to be able to handle and combine several inputs collectively towards effective and actionable results, especially since these recommendations represent the interests of the B20 community," said Agung.
Besides the 3 policy recommendations, Oki also conveyed that there were 14 recommendations for action on the policy recommendations.
1. Enhance the pace of energy efficiency improvement across the economy.
2. Progressively reduce the carbon emission of coal power plants.
3. Accelerate the deployment of renewable energy-based generation.
4. Develop alternative fuels for hard-to-abate sectors and decarbonize gas-based generation. Support establishing a global energy transition financing platform for channeling financing to developing countries
5. Support the development of a globally accepted taxonomy for assessment of sustainable projects and sustainability reporting standards
6. Support climate technology innovation by supporting start-ups, and research universities with technology, financing, skilled manpower, knowledge & facilities sharing.
