Bioavtur-SAF Output by Pertamina Refinery Aiding in Lowering Carbon Emissions

Through its Subholding PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), Pertamina is dedicated to producing superior aviation fuel products that comply with both international and local standards, one of which is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) that manufactured in Cilacap Refinery.
The Bioavtur-SAF product is made using Hefty Ester and Fatty Acid (HEFA) Co-Processing and is compliant with the international Avtur specifications ASTM D 1655, Defstan 91-91, and the Decree of the Director General of Oil and Gas No. 59 K of 2022. Furthermore, it meets global criteria such as CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) of the International Civil Aviation Organization, RefueEU/Fit55 of the EU, EU/UK Emission Trading, and Tax Credit IRA USA.
“KPI firmly believes in their mission to lead and pioneer in the development of drop-in renewable fuels, particularly Bioavtur-SAF, as an answer for the decarbonization program of the civil aviation sector, which is categorized as a hard-to-abate sector,” noted Taufik Aditiyawarma, KPI President Director.
The Bioavtur-SAF has successfully passed the SAF Ground Round Test and Flight Test with a CFM56-7B jet engine at Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Tangerang, Banten (4/10). In Southeast Asia, KPI is the only entity that has accomplished commercial production and is a flight test demonstrator of Bioavtur. Previously, the Bioavtur J 2.4 product was used for production trials at the TDHT/Green Refinery RU IV Refinery from 2020 to 2021 and for flight testing of a Military-registered CN 235 aircraft. This process will continue in 2023 as production trials for Garuda commercial aircraft flight testing purposes.
